Auburn vs Clemson: Can Clemson score?

Defending champion Auburn Tigers will keep their hopes alive to be able to have a shot in the SEC as they meet Clemson on Saturday. Auburn was resilient in their two victories so far making their opponents and fans in awe.

Just last Saturday when the Auburn Tigers surprisingly defeated Mississippi State 41-34 as backup safety made the best play by stopping Chris Relf at the goal line. The play was viewed so many times in the internet as one of the best defensive play in that week. Auburn may not have quarterback Cam Newton that led them to the National title, but the team continues to win with much sweats.

Quarterback Barrett Trotter completed for 16 of 23 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown to keep the team in moving the chains. Trotter makes the team to play with such calmness in tough times as they consistently ranking back in college football.

Trotter knows that he must step up to win games as he did in their first game against Utah State by scoring two touchdowns in the final two minutes to win the game. His favorite targets Emory Blake caught seven times for 108 yards, Onterio McCalebb’s four receptions for 24 yards and Philip Lutzenkirchen three for 18 yards against the Mississippi State paved the way for Trotter to be successful so far.

One of the biggest problems Auburn Tigers is their defense against the running game of their opponents. The team allowed Utah State and Mississippi State an average of 489.5 yards in the last two games that will actually hinder them against Clemson.

Auburn coach Gene Chizik must make adjustments on how the team will answer the offense of Clemson. Though Chizik has a young team on the defense, he can install in them the determination to stand against the offensive attacks of Clemson. Furthermore, the defense must be from the start so that they will be able to dominate that game at some points.

Clemson is currently undefeated and they can post a threat against Auburn. The strength of the team will surely be manifested on their ground offense which average 412 yards a game to make the Tigers defense works harder.

Running back Andre Ellington will make Clemson have a chance of winning against Auburn. In the last game he went on to rush 22 times for 165 yards in total. It is not only running that Clemson has something to offer.

Quarterback Tajh Boyd went on for 18 of 29 completions for 261 yards and three touchdowns against Wofford. He has his wide receivers in play like DeAndre Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, Jaron Brown, Dwayne Allen, and Martavis Bryant. Boyd has so many targets to rely on for the offense of Clemson. However, he needs to find them consistently against the thwarting defense of the Auburn Tigers.

What impressed many were Boyd’s long touchdown passes to Bryant for 42 yards, Sammy Watkins for 38 yards, and Hopkins for 17 yards. This makes Boyd a marked man for the Auburn’s defense.

Clemson has the balance attack in the air and on the ground that can stifle the defense of the Tigers. However, the Auburn Tigers have the speed on the players that will have them the slight advantage.

Auburn vs Clemson kicked off time is at 12:00 PM ET on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The television coverage of the game is on ABC. Auburn vs Clemson scores is available here right after the game.
